Walks In Skåne – New Book In English
The southernmost county of Sweden, known as Scania or Skåne (pronounced ‘Skauna’ in the local drawl), is an increasingly popular rural tourism destination. As such, you would think there are plenty of guidebooks in English to help you explore this stunning area – but there isn’t.
Sure, you could always ask someone for directions; everyone speaks English. The problem, however, is to find someone to ask. Sweden is scarcely populated and this is perhaps one reason why so many people want to visit. There are also many Scandinavian visitors and expatriates rambling about and although the languages are very similar the very nature of a guidebook leaves no room for misunderstandings – the walker would simply get lost and this would obviously render a hiking book in Swedish completely useless.
So with this in mind, and on popular demand, one my favourite walking guide has decided to translate a selection of her most loved coastal walks and publish these in one volume. Soon the whole English speaking world will have the opportunity to access the winding paths of Scania safe in the knowledge that Karin Hoffmann’s guide them back to the starting point.
The book gives the walker an introduction not only to the beautiful coast with its breathtaking views, but also to the surrounding area’s forests and characteristic countryside which is within easy reach. The unique concept of circular walks makes getting out and enjoying nature very accessible because the walker always comes back to the starting point after every adventure.
The walks are illustrated with many characteristic photos. The straightforward directions are easy to follow and are complemented with gps coordinates, altitude profiles and detailed topographical maps. With 28 circular walks of various lengths and difficulty, covering a combined total of 280 km there is something for everyone.
Several walking packages are offered by the various tourist offices in Skåne, e.g in Ängelholm/Båstad.
