Travel to exchange ideas
The Swedish botanist Linnaeus sent his apostles round the world to collect knowledege about life on earth. Today we arrange “Idea travel tours”, to create meeting points and forums between historians, ethnographers, botanists and other people just interested to participate i todays debate for sustainable living. In Russia St Petersburg Center for the history of ideas arrange an international conference in June, Carolus Linnaeus in Russia.
The main task of the Center is to foster international scholarship and researches in the history of Russian ideas, especially in the Age of Enlightenment.
The site publishes the results of the Centers activities, mostly texts, and many of them are naturally in Russian, others are in English.
The Center was established in 1995 by scholars of the Russian Academy of Sciences and officially registered as a non-commercial organization in 2001.
In Sweden the old univerisity town Lund is more than ever, a meeting place for ideas and creativity. Here, the university, science-park, multicultural atmosphere and historical surroundings make up a unique combination. “Since my day the academy has improved,” Linnaeus noted, in his dairy during the expedition 1749. He had studied there for one year in 1727. He noted the many species of tree taken from nearby estates. The 1500-century Lundagårds House “Kungshuset” was the only building at the time, built 1578.
