The seaside resort
Sweden’s tennis capital, Båstad also a popular resort, hosts the headquarters of Tennis Sweden. Its numerous tournaments include the Synsam Swedish Open, the Swedish Ladies $25,000 event and Båstad Tennis, packing some 1,900 matches into three exciting weeks. The world number two and last year´s clay court master, Rafael Nadal, will come back to Sweden, Båstad and the Synsam Swedish Open 8-16 of July, to defend his title.In the late nineteenth century, Båstad became a popular seaside village. Guesthouses, restaurants, cafes and dance pavilions made their appearance and along the seaside promenade, visitors could be seen strolling along in their elegant summer clothes or taking cold baths at the covered jetty by the harbour. In Torekov, tourists could enjoy a seaweed bath and or a invigorating dip in the cool water. The area still has a number of guesthouses and cafes dating from this period which continue the traditions that made Båstad and Torekov, the famous seaside resorts in their time.
