Taste their culinary dream

Finally he had the opportunity to live his dream to rear animals on their own terms in a natural way. Thirty-five years ago he bought the farm south in Sweden and turned it to the ecological farm and a culinary experience. Now the farm is successfully managed by Rolf Axel Nordström and his family.

He started rearing pigs on a pure vegetable diet using only products grown on the farm and the let them root around outside in their natural surroundings. They became, after a while, registered with the trademark Healthy Pig.

At Ängavallen the motto is ”from field to fork”. This means that all pork, lamb and beef as well as all cold cooked meats come from the farm. The farm has grown with cows and sheep, with an on-farm slaughterhouse, where the animals meet a completely stress-free end, with Sweden’s first Farm Shop where the farm produce and home-made delicacies are sold, with the restaurant, the café, the picnic park, the herb garden and now the newly-built Farm Hotel.

The homely and comfortable hotel at Ängavallen is also set in beautiful surroundings. It is ideal for those seeking refuge from everyday routine and the opportunity to enjoy a few days of fresh air in the country. Even the hotel is ecological. All materials, from the comfortable mattresses on the beds to the insulation in the walls and electricity are produced in an environmentally friendly way.

The building that contains the restaurant dates from 1876 and has been carefully renovated in keeping with past traditions. Genuine traditional gourmet dishes from Skåne are served in the beautiful rooms, dishes that are prepared using the farm’s own raw ingredients such as meat from home – reared animals, vegetables from the estate’s ecological garden plots and herbs and spices from the Herb Garden

And this is certainly just the beginning of the Tale of Ängavallen, as, considering the commitment and the energy that Rolf Axel and his family have put into this project, the saga will surely continue in future with generation after generation.
