Sweden’s Latest Craze, “Lunchbeat”
There are at least 200 of them, and they are well into their ‘moves’. One wears a suit, another training clothes, and a third jeans and trainers. When the tempo of the pulsating music speeds up, they all raise their arms in the air. Anyone can take part, and they do too! The phenomenon Lunchbeat is spreading across Sweden and takes place in unusual locations, preferably without onlookers so that those taking part can just let go. The most recent disco was arranged on the roof of the Kulturhuset in Stockholm.
The lunch disco Lunchbeat is arranged once a month in Stockholm. Gothenburg has just had its first session, and it has been running in Malmö throughout the spring.
Lunchbeat is a nonprofit organisation. A light lunch is served at the disco. Guests pay between 60 and 100 Swedish crowns for the lunch.
The music ranges from electronic beats to heavy techno. It is mixed by various DJs and is exactly one hour long. At one o’clock the lunch disco finishes.
