Sterling Airline Ceased Flying Today
During the last few weeks, the management, board of directors, and the shareholder of Sterling Airlines A/S have been fighting a battle to keep the company alive. This has not had a positive outcome, and the company have therefore decided to file for bankruptcy which was done earlier today. The news fell heavy on all the passangers waiting for departure today. Some of the leading aircompanies now offers free seats to former Sterling customers. Ongoing speculations predict Norwegian Air or SAS to take over the routes.
In the wake of Sterlings bankruptcy, Norwegian has decided to establish a new base in Copenhagen. From the November 6, the two aircraft to be located in Copenhagen and thus fly 6 lines. Routes will be operated is Copenhagen to Aalborg, Stockholm, Oslo, Alicante, Malaga and Nice. Shortly thereafter, the 7 additional routes will be opened; Copenhagen to London, Amsterdam, Rome, Prague, Barcelona and Pisa. In May 2009 Norweigian calculates that the base has 8-10 Boeing 737-800.
