Spectacular Christmas Tables In Copenhagen
For half a century royalty, celebrities and many of Denmark’s creative heavyweights have been setting Christmas tables using Royal Copenhagen porcelain. This year the legendary Christmas table celebrates its 50thanniversary, an occasion marked by seven sumptuous Christmas tables decorated by some of the most impressive creatives from both home and abroad. The exhibition has become one of the most popular events in Copenhagen and every Christmas draws more than 200,000 guests who come to be enchanted and inspired.
Chef Thomas Rode has together with his wife Thilde Maarbjerg created a table that, naturally, reflects the modern Stone Age and the story of a time in Danish history marked by battle-ready Vikings from a proud and victorious North. We are back in time where there is no place for pomp and circumstance, where the healthy person reigns, where everything is used and nothing is thrown away. Other designers are architects Signe Bindslev Henriksen and Peter Bundgaard Rützou, artist Cathrine Raben Davidsen, fashion designer Julie Brandt Dam, Dutch artist Wouter Dolk, jewellery designer Rebekka Notkin, interior designer Oliver Gustav.
The result is a veritable explosion of colours, materials, table settings and very personal interpretations of how to decorate a Christmas table.
