Malmö – a growing cruise harbour
The Port of Malmö is ideally located at the hub between the Baltic and the North Sea, close to Copenhagen in Denmark and within easy reach of the Kiel Canal. It’s only a day’s sail from Amsterdam, London, Stockholm, and other major destinations.
Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) is the port authority in both Copenhagen and Malmö. Copenhagen is the major cruise port in Northern Europe and all expertise and know-how from Copenhagen is available when ships docks in Malmö.
The port is located in the central parts of Malmö and smaller ships dock in the city centre and larger ships dock 1 km from city centre. Malmö cruise network will provide qualified shore excursion programmes and incoming service.
Malmö is centrally placed in the Öresund region and has always had close connections to the Danish capital, Copenhagen, which lies just across the water. With the building of a bridge between the two cities, the ties have become even closer. For the visitor this opens up for a lot of interesting possibilities. By train, it only takes 35 minutes to travel from one city to the other.
Flight passengers arrive via Copenhagen Airport or Malmö-Sturup Airport. Both airports are only half an hour from Malmö by bus, taxi or train. Malmö-Sturup Airport serves several low-price airlines, and has starting charges that are lower than Copenhagen Airport.
In the recent years, Malmö has become a centre for modern architecture. In the Western Harbour area, fascinating new buildings shoot up everywhere.
One of the most interesting new projects, The Turning Torso, has actually become one of the city’s most popular attractions. Still, as a visitor you should not miss out on the old town centre with its narrow streets and a variety of design and clothes shops, cafés and restaurants.
Shore excursions are an excellent way to tour Malmö city and surroundings. There is a variety to choose from, and you’re sure to find more than one you’re interested in. Tour guides will take you to out-of-the-way sites, and transportation is comfortable and reliable.
