New York Times reports on Bjäre

With a picture of a man walking in a bathrobe on Morgonbryggan in Torekov, the New York Times, one of the world’s largest newspapers, called attention to Bjärehalvön, Sweden in an article entitled “The Good Life on the Swedish Riviera”.
The New York Times sells about 1.1 million daily copies, and the article was included in the travel section. In the article the reporter stated that Båstad is a “must” destination for wealthy Swedes and that it is possible to purchase lobster pizza for $70, around 500 Skr., at Pepe’s Bodega. Båstad is compared with Jessica Fletcher’s fictive Cabot Cove, in “Murder, She Wrote”, while Pepe’s Bodega is more like the American MTV musical channel’s “Spring Break”. Even Torekov was visited, where the Americans got the explanation that those who go for a morning swim wearing their bathrobes- just like the people in Båstad- probably wish to give a signal that they are “the lucky ones who own a house in town”.
