Märta Måås-Fjetterström Studio In Båstad
It is with almost a pastoral feeling we entered the studio of Märta Måås-Fjetterström this sunny Saturday in Båstad located at the Bjäre pensinsula. We wanted to see the work with the new “Rug Of The Year” usually kept as a secret until the vernissage. This year the designer is the queen of Denmark Margrethe II. For the first time you are welcome to view the expert weavers in action.
Both rugs and woven textiles are produced entirely by hand in the studio in Båstad since 1919. Designs and instructions have been handed down from generation to generation. When Märta Måås-Fjetterström died in 1941 she left to posterity some 700 designs, with detailed instructions for their manufacture, using a range of different techniques. All the yarns used on the premises are dyed by their own staff. Currently they have 8 tons of woollen yarns in store in a total of 1074 colours!
We can follow the work with the rug until June 6th when it will be be released from the loom. The rug called “Coastal Landscape”(Kustlandskap) will be exhibited at first in Båstad from 13 July – midst September. After that the rug will be exhibited in Stockholm, at Liljewalchs Art Gallery, from October 3rd 2009 – January 4th 2010. Here you will also find hundreds of impressive and beautiful art rugs produced by hand since 1919 from the studio in Båstad.
Besides the Märta Måås Fjätterström Studio in Båstad this resort offers a lot of exotic experience. Mostly the culinary theme will meet you like in different culinary adventure like cooking academy and potato picking!
