Marsvinsholms Castle Worth An Excursion

I went to visit the Marsvinsholms castle  and sculpture park on a greyish and foggy, January day. The park was still in winter dress preparing for the season to come. For the third summer the exhibition  will open with well known Swedish and Danish artists.

The Marsvinsholm castle was built in 1644 by the Danish nobleman Otte Marsvin and privately owned since then. Last year the castle opened up for visitors for the first time to the public.

The Gallery in the ground floor shows small sculptures from the same artists as in the park and  even a documentation of the exciting history of Marsvinsholms Castle. The guide will tell you about their dramatic life, the sorrow and despair among family members, who have lived here during the centuries.
There is approximately 150 items, in the park, by 60 artist in every style and material you can imagine. Every year you will find new items too!
The park contains also a nice café where you can enjoy the view of the castle.
The exhibition is open every day 10-18 between 27/6-23/8.

For those who want a genuine hunting experience it is arranged by the family living in the castle today.
Location: 7 km west of Ystad, yet close to both Malmö and Copenhagen. In the area you will find a lot of castle for a tour and to visit.

Here are some great pictures from the Sculpture Park:
