Maarta Maas Fjatterstrom Bastad Studio

Marta_Maas_Fjatterstrom rug at Torekov_HotellAt the new hotel in Torekov I found this beautiful hand made rug from the studio of Märta Måås-Fjetterström. She started her textiles workshop in 1919 in the little town of Båstad, in the southwest of Sweden. Today this seaside summer village is most famous for the tennis and jet set life during one summer week. This year the Swedish Television has been broadcasting every morning giving us all gossips about celebrities visiting Bastad; like the Swedish hockey twins Joel (Dallas Stars) and Henrik Lundqvist (New York Rangers). They rarely have the time to meet but are here to visit their family. Their father, Peter Lundqvist, General Manager for the Tourist Office in Bastad, is a busy man
these days. This small summer resort that proudly hosts Swedish Open Tennis Game is crowded with tourists and other V.I.Ps.

This summer you should find some weatherproof activities in this district of Sweden. To visit the studio of Märta Måås where the million dollar rugs are produced could be an interesting way to spend a few hours. Another suggestion is to mingle around Båstad Harbour and join the tennis party (but do not forget your umbrella)! Did you miss the event this year you will have another chance next year.

The beautiful park Norrvikens Trädgårdar is also worth a visit. This park is an ongoing topic for debate in the local newspaper since no one seems to know how to protect and preserve this culture heritage for the future; either let it be as it is (and broke) or build a tourist centre with hotels in the park.
