Carl Linnaeus, Prince Hamlet and Tycho Brahe

Meet three historical and culture personalities during a 4-days stay in Skåne and Denmark. Within a easy reach you will have interesting sites connecting to three famous characters: Prince Hamlet, Tycho Brahe and Carl Linneaus(Carl von Linné/ Linneo.).

Kronborg Castle – prince Hamlet
Webb_Kronborg fr havet.jpg The Danish and Swedish Royal Families have a long history of summer residences in the region that can still be visited today. The most famous is Kronborg, an excellent example of a Renaissance castle showing the glory of the Danish kingdom. Kronborg Castle was immortalized in William Shakespeare’s play of the prince “Hamlet”. Walk through the Chapel and the Knight’s Hall, the longest room in northern Europe, and it is easy to understand why he chose Kronborg as the setting for his famous play.

Visit the castle with your own guide and have dinner at a restaurant nearby. Approx 15 minutes walk back to ferries, to Sweden and Helsingborg.

Sofiero Castle – Royal Family’s summerhouse
Sofiero Castle Across the Öresund on the Swedish coast you will find Sofiero Castle, the summer residence of the former Swedish King Gustav VI Adolf. His passion for gardening, which he shared with his wife, transformed the park surrounding the castle into one of Sweden’s most famous gardens. They also have a great restaurant.

Visit the castle with your own guide and have a culinary experience at the restaurant on the castle, known for their great food. Distance only 10 minutes from the hotel by bus.
Knutstorp – where the Astronomer Tycho Brahe was born
Knutstorp is situated about 8 kilometres to the northeast of Svalöv in Skåne. It was here that Tycho Brahe was born in 1546. At that time, the stronghold consisted of four wings but today only one of these remains. In 1551 it was rebuilt in Nordic Renaissance style. Over the original 16th century entrance to the manor house there hangs a stone tablet, which commemorates those responsible for the rebuilding, namely Otte Brahe and Beata Bille, Tycho’s parent.The owner of the castle meets you and gives you a guided tour in the trail of Tycho Brahe. Before dinner at the castle there also will be time for a tour and walk in the beautiful surroundings. In the evening you could have a Swedish traditional treat with local specialities.

Wrams Gunnarstorp – Linnaeus was here!
After breakfast sightseeing and shopping in Helsingborg. Visit Ramlösa Parc (famous water quell and brand) “Linnéaus was here”. Ramlösa celebrates 300 years together with Linnéaus in 2007. Linné visited Ramlösa, and much of the 18th century setting remains. Gamle Gård, is one of the oldest buildings in Helsingborg. Here Linné stayed during his visit to the city.

In the late afternoon a visit to the park at Wrams Gunnarstorp Castle, approx distance 40 minutes from Helsingborg.There are enormous box hedges described by Linné as far back as 1749. Dinner at one of the castle Örenäs by the sea, Approx 30 minutes from Wrams Gunnarstorp.

On the way back to the airport there will be possible to make a stop at an interesting site. Perhaps some of the new futuristic designed areas in Malmö or Copenhagen.
