German Sport Fishermen Flock to Falun, Sweden
Mathias Holgersson, a young entrepreneur from Falun, Sweden, is making inroads into the highly competitive sport fishing market. His tailored fishing package, targeting the German market, provides accommodations, boats, fishing equipment, and guided fish tours in a choice of lakes.
The temptation of a feisty pike catch is the trump card. According to Holgersson, Germany has double the number of registered sport fishermen than there are inhabitants in Sweden. Eighty percent of these sport fishermen focus on pike fishing. This market is demanding, craving not only comfortable accommodations and exciting fishing possibilities, but also seeking locations close to towns, restaurants, culture, and shopping.
This autumn Holgersson expects 100 German sport fishermen. His fishing camp, located on the shimmering Lake Runn shoreline, is a perfect location for relaxation and reflection. The area, dotted with thick daunting forests, alluring waterways and small, beckoning islands, is a magnet for nature lovers who enjoy fishing, kayaking, and canoeing.
Moose are a common sight in the forests. Holgersson has a vision of being the leader within sport fishing in Gävleborg- Dalarna, Sweden within three years. He hopes to contribute to the economic well- being of the community, as well as protect the delicate environment. There are plans to promote ecological fishing, which is the practice of placing fish back in the lakes after photographing them.
