Follow the footsteps of Carl Linnaeus

Linnaeus visited Råbelöv Manor north of Kristianstad situated by the lake of Råbelöv. He noted wines, mulberry, walnuts, laburnum, lilies and lavender in the garden. The manor house dates from 1637. The lake was rich of eels with hundreds of eels to be captured in the mornings.
Balsberget situated north of Råbelöv is one of the official “Linné was here” locations in Sweden. Here he found Limestone from the Cretaceous era and many fossils and caves. Although he did not know they were between 100 and 500 millions years old.

Troll Stone Maglesten Photo Bo Abrahamsson“15 cubits long 12 wide and 10 high was the Maglasten stone, Linnaeus noted. It is said that a giant threw it here to stop the building of a church at Åhus.He missed by many miles. Another legend says they it was here, at the site of the Troll Stone, that the horn and pipe were stolen from the troll. The stone is a boulder stranded after the Ice Age.
