Events in Skane Summer 2008

Here are some of the event for this summer I found interesting to forward to you as a visitor!

Postal robbery hike across Hallandsås ridge
An eventful 12 km hike, with role-players along the road, telling about a post robbery that took place here in 1762. Beverages will be served. May 11th, 9:00 Margaretetorp, Hjärnarp, north west corner of Skane.

Tulip Show in Simrishamn May 12th – June 13th
Apotekarns Trädgård and Bergengrenska Trädgården invite you to a dazzling display of tulips in every possible colour. The gardens have collections of historical tulips and the town’s head gardener, Rolf Carlsson, takes visitors on an exciting tour around these fantastic flowers.

Rose Festival in south east Skane July 6-8.

Viking market in Foteviken Viking Village June 27 – 29
Hundreds of Vikings will gather in Foteviken Viking Reserve. Craftsmen from England, Holland, Iceland and many other countries.

The traditional Monk Market in Ystad town centre. July 7-8.
Music, festivities and fun fair. The local shops will also be open on Friday evening, with the sales staff dressed up as monks!

Falsterbo Horse Show July 13-20
Kiviks Marknad July 14-16. The most well-known fair of Sweden. This legendary market in the summer idyll of Österlen has grown into one of the biggest markets in Sweden. Over 1,000 traders sell their goods and Axelssons Funfair adds to the exhilarating atmosphere. The market attracts 100,000 visitors annually, from near and far.

The annual antic and artfair in Helsingborg takes place between the 26-29 of july.
This is where you find the most exclusive Swedish dealers with exhibition cases full of furnitures, china and paintings.

Remarkable floating gardens in the the moat by castle Citadellet, garden market, harvest home, music, food and wonderful open gardens. August 15-17

Colourful, bubbling, fun, musical, swinging, cultural – the Malmö Festival is everything and has something for everyone. August 15-22.

When the gardens are at their most magnificent, the major event of the Sofiero year takes place, August 29-31. Three days of festivities with gardening personalities, inspirational gardens, floral installations, new ideas and much more. Food, entertainment and tips in the whole park. Gardening exhibition with a wide range of useful, innovative and decorative wares for house and garden.Herring Day.

An old-fashioned herring market and herring smokery in Simrishamn, with restaurants around the harbour serving herring in different forms. Be there early the event will end in the afternoon. The best herring buffet I ever tasted! Augusti 30.

Culture Night in Lund, September 20, is one of Sweden?s biggest cultural events, when the town is taken over by art, music, theatre, dance, food, poetry and other cultural attractions.

Harvest festival, September 27-28 with the focus on apples. Two-day festival that always attracts around 20,000 visitors who listen to music, see the world´s biggest picture made from apples and follow guided tours of the apple factories of Äppelriket Österlen (the Österlen Apple Kingdom) and Kiviks Musteri (Kivik´s Juicery).
