CityZip Adventure Near Stockholm

CityZip Västerås

It will then be possible to fly over the roofs of the city whilst securely fastened in a harness and enjoy the view of the city and Lake Mälaren. The world’s first permanent Zipline in an urban setting is to open in Västerås, Sweden in spring 2011.

A Zipline is rather similar to an aerial ropeway where the passenger is secured via a harness and ”flies” along the length of the line.  A ride is approximately 530 metres long starting on the roof of the building Skrapan at a height of 84 m and ending on the roof of the VLT building. The course runs through air space about 40 m above one of the city’s most central squares.

Västerås CityZip will be built with the help of a brand new technique to cope with the existing conditions. Ziplines are usually built in places where gravity forces can be utilized and where there are opportunities to move the start and landing places depending on what is required to slow down the speed.  Consideration also has to be given to the general aspect of the city and disturbances. To cope with the conditions, a completely new cable, drive and control system needs to be developed based on similar techniques used by NASA, ABB Mining and film producers in Hollywood.

Västerås also offers the Vertical Run activity.
