A Slideluck Potshow Event in Stockholm
A Slideluck Potshow is scheduled for late September in Stockholm, Sweden. This will be the second event to be held in the country.
There is an established pattern for the event. Participants socialize over food and drinks. There are no set rules, but it is suggested that homemade foods be contributed. Later, the lights are dimmed, a hush falls over the venue, and then a multimedia showing of local photographers’ and artists’ work is presented. This presentation generally lasts about an hour and a half.
The purpose of these events is to bring artists, photographers, media personnel, and other creative people together where they can share their work. These events allow breathing space in a relaxed, non- competitive atmosphere. It is an effort to offset the intense pressure of the commercial business. Established artists as well as newcomers are welcome, and they are encouraged to share slides of photos, paintings, sculptures, graphics, designs, etc. Participants are allowed a maximum of five minutes to display their work, and it must be in digital format.
n Seattle, Washington, USA, 2000, a photographer by the name of Casey Kelbaugh started a movement within the arts community that has circled the globe. He extended an invitation to the artistic community, inviting people to join him in his garden. They were to bring drinks and homemade food, and to provide photographs of their artistic creations, which would be shown on Kelbaugh’s projector. This event, of gathering and sharing, was a phenomenal success.
Kelbaugh moved to New York in 2004, where he continued this activity. The gatherings grew larger, and the concept spread like wildfire to other cities around the world.
