A culinary potato and tomato experience

A potato is a potato is a potato, you think but it is not. This week I visited the farmer with 500 (!) different sorts of potatoes. I also met the farmers who both drink and eat their potatoes in various colours and shapes. And if you want something decorative for your table, why not choose tomatoes with different patterns. picnicPlant potatoestomato

karlsson VodkaThe same man who created Absolut vodka creates the Karlsson Vodka from potatoes. All his knowledge now is put in this new brand of spirits from the opposite corner of Skåne Bjäre. Cape Bjäre they call it now. It used to be Bjäre peninsula.

CrispBlue crisp (from blue potatoes) are delicious with a small glass of Karlsson vodka or reverse. Both products are locally developed from the potatoes cultivated here with a unique taste because of the climate and soil. Nearly 40 per cent of all potatoes in Sweden are produced here. That tells us something about quality.
Ray of tomatoesAnd what about 76 sorts of tomatoes? After planting and preparing next potato harvest (me and my fellow travelers from the back seat of a tractor) we drove to the visit biggest tomato farmer. They are decorative and healthy. The tomatoes I mean. I do not know about the farmer. Some of them are healthier like San Marzano with a high concentration of Lycopene. Recent reports say that Lycopene could protect against breast cancer and prostate cancer.

Today I heard of a wineyard in the neighbourhood. Sounds exotic, but we have about 100 hundred now in Sweden. One of them in the same fishing village as Absolut Vodka, Åhus. I suggest you contact me for a culinary trip round Skåne to find out more for your self. It is a very pleasent experience. I promise.
