2013 World Food Tourism Conference
The success of Sweden as the new culinary nation continues with the naming of Gothenburg as host city for the World Food Travel Summit 21-24 September 2013. The fact that Sweden will host an international congress on food tourism is a great honour and shows that Sweden has taken its rightful place on the world map of culinary destinations. The theme of next year’s Summit in Gothenburg is ”The New Wave in Food Tourism. The impact of food on the environment has also become an important topic. Visit Sweden, Göteborg & Co and the West Sweden Tourist Board, together with the World Food Travel Association, will organize next year’s World Food Travel Summit.
Erik Wolf, Executive Director of the World Food Travel Association, and the founder of the world’s food tourism industry, sees Gothenburg and Sweden as perfect partners to host the World Summit. ”Sweden is an exciting new destination for foodie travelers, yet relatively unknown in the world, despite the quality and tastiness of its cuisine. I’m so glad we chose Gothenburg to host our next World Summit. It’s a great city, with history, architecture, proximity to the sea and beautiful landscape, warm and friendly people and the world’s most delicious shrimp sandwich. What more could we ask for?” says Wolf.
The goal of the biennial Summit is to create a forum for dialogue and exchange of knowledge and learn about emerging trends in food tourism. ”We want to help our industry to innovate their business models and processes and connect with others with whom they can do business”, says Wolf. The conference is targeted to professionals in the food, beverage, travel and hospitality industries world-wide.Five hundred delegates are expected. The last Summit was held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada in 2010.
