Here is a map
Itinerary, start/end Stockholm where a coach will pick up the group.
Day 1. Arrive in Stockholm, meet and greet at the airport and drive west to the unique Eco-lodge Kolarbyn. This is the region Bergslagen in Sweden where you are most likely to encounter wild Moose in its natural habitat. During the tour you will get the chance to visit a Moose’s own home ground, a perfect environment to learn more about Moose and the other inhabitants of the forest in a practical way. Our guides share their skills of wildlife tracking as we search for hoof prints, fresh droppings and bite marks. We will also learn different ways of communicating with Moose, of which some have been used by hunters in the region for thousands of years.
Enjoy a wilderness dinner in the evening before a good night sleep in the rustic forest hut or a more comfortable hotel nearby.
Day 2. After breakfast you will have some free time to explore the area. Why not go for swimming, fishing or a sauna before lunch? In the afternoon continue north to Dalarna and Orsa, (approx 4 hrs) to one of the most bear dense areas of Sweden. Dalarna is often mentioned as the very hart of Sweden culture and history and you will have a short sightseeing tour in this region, before check in to your hotel (or wildlife cottage).
Traditional dinner in the evening.
Day 3. After breakfast meet with Andrea or Gunther who are working with bear research since 1998. They take us through an exhibition where we get an introduction on how research on wildlife bears is done. When we have learned about how to immobilize a bear we head for the bear area. We visit a recently used den where we search for traces from bears. Some of the bears in the area have been radio marked. You can try the method that is used for localizing them without disturbing them.
After some fundamental information about the bears’ life we continue to a scenic spot and have dinner by a camp fire in the wilderness. Here we have the opportunity to ask more questions about research and the bears. With thrilling stories, fresh coffee and information on how to behave in case of a bear encounter we round off this experience full tour into the wilderness and leave the bear area and get back to civilization.
The Bear expedition includes: Guide with long experience of bear research, visit of bear research exhibition,
guided tour to bear den, collection of data and samples. Lecture about bear research. Coffee break and dinner, the book: ”Is the brown bear dangerous?”
Day 4. After breakfast, driver directly back to Stockholm, or stay another night in an unexploited area of nature experiences. Visit the Wij Gardens in Ockelbo. Wij Gardens is not an exhibition, nor a museum, but an experience for your senses.
Their mission is to make visitors a little bit wiser and a little bit more concerned about life and the flora in the Scandinavian gardens. Wij Gardens every season also present a various art exhibitions and concerts.
After a visit to the gardens continue to the village Älvkarleby, where everything meet: the river, sea, water and land.
Upstream from the Älvkarleby waterfall, you can find wide open waters rich with pike, zander and perch.
Check into your hotel near the impressive waterfall.
Day 5. After breakfast, check out before you meet with our fishing guide. You will be introduced to the beauty of sport fishing and get to try your fishing luck yourself!
After lunch, continue back to Stockholm, where you will arrive to the airport for departure or, stay extra nights to explore this capital on water.
Perhaps finish this adventure with a zeal safari with a fast speed boat from city center to the outer archipelago!
