Explore Dynamic Copenhagen and relaxing Skåne Countryside The culinary heritage of Skåne has evolved in harmony with the geography of the province: wide plains, rolling fields, avenues of willows, endless white sandy beaches, manor house estates, deep forests and rugged cliffs. Surrounded on three sides by the sea, Skåne enjoys a mild climate. The various types of fertile soil and short distance between coastal and inland areas has meant that high quality ingredients, these include grain and vegetable crops, fruit, live stock, game and fish, are fresh and readily available. It is hardly surprising that Skåne has become a centre for gastronomy and food technology.

Day 1 Drive on north about 20 kilometres to the thousand-year-old university town, Lund. Visit the old town and Open Air Museum, Kulturen and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Alnarp between Malmö and Lund. Continue towards the centre of Skåne and the Lake Ringsjön where you check in to Ringsjö Inn (Wärdshus). This typical charming inn stands in some of Skåne’s most beautiful scenery on the shores of Ringsjö Lake. Before dinner you can take a walk to the castle of the Bosjökloster. It is a pearl, the white convent on the peninsula between the two lakes, shimmering in the sun during autumn’s clear days.ing and most assorted ones in Sweden. Drive from Malmö approx 50 km.

Day 2. After a nice breakfast buffet, drive cross Skåne, on small country roads (touristic roads on the map are often marked with dots) over the ridge to the east coast and the village Åhus on the Baltic seaside. Here one could find wealthy commoners, tough lads, widely travelled skippers and learned monks and scholars. This was Åhus, as it became market town in 1149. The more recent historiography only deals with what the inhabitants of Åhus calls the three sins; eel, tobacco and distilled spirits. Today approximately 100 million litres Absolut Vodka, manufactured in Åhus, is sold around the world. That makes it the third most sold sort of spirit. During the season, October-November, eel parties with a smorgasbord of eel dishes are arranged. The eel huts on the wide sandy beaches in the bay are well worth a visit Your overnight stay will be at the old inn Åhus Gästgifvaregården, which is situated in the old part of Åhus dating back to the 12th century. You stay in double rooms and are invited to a 3-course dinner in the evening. Experience the delightful pleasure of the food, where the menu is set both by season and availability of the local products. Drive nearest road Ringsjön – Åhus approx 60  kilometres. 

Day 3. After breakfast turn south again a follow the beautiful country roads to Österlen, a rural region heavy with culinary experiences. The hilly nature provides beautiful sceneries where the blue sky meets the Baltic Sea. The open landscape and proximity of the sea create a special light – a light that has always attracted artists and writers here. Everywhere you will find the artisans and antique shops as well as culinary products of local farmers. The road to Karlaby Kro runs through the Österlen landscape. Drive from Åhus approx 70 km. After passing villages with names like Baskemölla and Gladsax, you turn off at a small gravelled road to Tommarp. There, set among fields and arable land, you will find the hotel and restaurant Karlaby Kro. The house itself is a whitewashed Skåne manor with a straw roof, and it was originally built in the beginning of the 19th century. Close by, in the orangery, is an indoor pool.

Day 4. After breakfast it is time to go back. It is about 90 kilometres drive to Malmö. Before crossing the bridge, a lunch in the centre of Malmö is recommended. Here you will find among others the restaurant Årstiderna, one of the finest tables in Skåne. This will be a worthy final to your gourmet trip in Skåne. If you have chosen to pick-up/drop your rental car in Malmö/Sweden it is not far from the train station and direct trains to Copenhagen Airport 15 minutes away.
